CHANNEL UPDATE
Happy New Year! 2006 was a great year and we hope to carry this success well into 2007. As we begin a new calendar year, we’d like to look back on the highlights of 2006.
For those of you who were able to attend November’s Channel Conference in Ireland, we’d like to thank you for your participation. Your positive response has been an important indicator that we’re on the right track to success.
In 2006 we updated the Marketing and Sales Tools section on PartnerWeb where you can find presentations, literature, and helpful links, like the one to our new Channel Collateral Ordering Tool. In this issue, you can find article describing the ordering tool. Continue to look for more improvements to PartnerWeb in 2007.
In addition, 2006 included several exciting solutions announcements. The BlackDiamond® 12804R launched in February as part of our Carrier Ethernet Solution designed to help our customers increase revenue per subscriber, expand market reach to generate revenue growth and improve subscriber experience. Our Mid-Sized Network Solutions mobilization in October addressed the need to deliver secure, highly available connectivity for voice, video and data to a discerning and highly mobile user community of mid-sized organizations.
Finally, there is no time more fitting to say, “Thank You for your hard work and dedication.” We speak for the entire Extreme Networks management team when we say we’re glad you’ve made the choice to partner with us. We’re looking forward to a very successful and profitable year!
Go Channel!

New Sentriant™ AG Health Check Detects Skype
Sentriant AG 4.1 can now check for the presence of Skype on devices connecting to the network. Skype is a popular P2P voice application which can potentially consume significant network bandwidth and provide a backdoor for malware to enter the network. Customers concerned about the use of Skype on their network can now configure Sentriant AG to provide a warning to users when Skype is detected or automatically quarantine the device. The new test will be automatically downloaded to all Sentriant AG servers during their next scheduled test update. For more information or any questions, please contact

Network World conducted a brief interview with chairman and co-founder Gordon Stitt about the significance of the color purple to the company and about Extreme's new CEO Mark Canepa. When asked about Mark Canepa, Stitt stated "He’s got great pedigree. And [Canepa] having spent the last five years in storage there are a lot of analogies between storage and networking, and I view that as a positive. Still, he comes in with a fresh view." More about

Security, Voice over IP Support, PoE the Top Trends in Routers, Switches
A recent study by Infonetics Research revealed top trends in the router and switch markets. According to the study, “products that combine security and routing are becoming increasingly popular with corporate IT departments, most of whom buy all of their switches and routers from one manufacturer.” The study showed that support for VoIP was one of the top emerging trends in LAN switching. Infonetics also stated that manufacturers are including Power over Ethernet because telecom administrators want their IP phones to continue operating in the event of a power failure. The other top emerging trend in switching identified is support for the 802.1x wireless security standard. Read more about
